Sprout Pencil - A Pencil You Can Plant!

Disclaimer: I received the following product(s) in exchange for my review. All opinions my own.

What an amazing invention! It's the first pencil that grows!
A company named Sprout wanted to face the "throw-away culture" and focused in on one of our everyday utensils...a pencil! They came up with the idea, that what if instead of throwing away your pencil stubs, you could reuse it to grow something else. They put their thoughts to action and came up with the new Sprout Pencil that you can grow a delicious herbal plant from! These pencils are handmade in Minnesota, made from high quality, sustainably harvested cedar wood and contain zero lead. They writing point is made with graphite and clay, making these pencils natural and non toxic.
Every Sprout Pencil is a real working pencil, and once it's lost the writing/drawing life, you can plant the end of the pencil into soil, and it will grow a herb plant that you can use for cooking. There are several different Sprout Pencils even available in color, with each one being a different plant to grow. Herbs like Basil, Coriander, Dill, Rosemary, Sage, Green Pepper, Sunflower, and more!!

I received a Sprout Pencil with a Calendula plant to grow from it. I sharpened the end of the pencil and have been using it as I would a normal pencil, until it is too small to use. Once ready to plant your pencil, first you must soak the Sprout paper tip in water for and hour before planting in soil. Then plant the top pencil tip (where an eraser would be) into soil and water it daily, making sure it has enough sunlight to grow. Continue keeping soil moist until germination and you can grow the plant indoors or out!

I love the idea of a Sprout Pencil. What a great way to recycle and live better for our environment. This is such a good gift to give, to those who both, love to draw and grow a garden. My son is an avid drawer, he's really a mini artist and I knew this pencil would be a hit with him. As soon as we got it, he sharpened the tip and began drawing with it. He is excited to plant it, and see the pretty Calendula flowers that will grow in! Such a fun experience!
